Italian Gothic and stained glass...

WSBC was erected in the 1870's, in the style often referred to as Italian Gothic, a type of architecture that had its beginnings in the rapidly growing cities of the 13th century.  Among often recognized characteristics, were the pointed arches with jointed apex.  As this allowed open spaces to be used for window, it was found that stained glass offered a desirable way to bring in color as well as light for the church interior.   WSBC's East Windows were designed by Schroff of Boston and are titled, "Suffer the Little Children", "The Nativity", and "The Ascension".   The Stained Glass Window forming the back of the Baptistry, "Beside Still Waters" was once said to be the finest in the country.

A Moller organ...

The church organ was built (and rebuilt) by the M.P. Moller Company of Pennsylvania.  It is actually a combination of five organs:  1) GREAT ORGAN, being the major part of the instrument, supplying the foundation of the volume and tone.  2) CHOIR ORGAN, supplying the expression which is lacking in the Great Organ, adding much to the richness and quality of tone.   3) SWELL ORGAN, made up of solo pipes which give variety of tone and expression.  4) PEDAL ORGAN, played by foot pedals and controlling the larger pipes which give depth and volume of tone.  5) CONSOLE, the system of electrically controlled manuals upon which the organist play and controls the entire instrument.   Our Moller organ is a wonderful instrument to be used in worshipping God.

A place to use and preserve...

Washington Street Baptist is truly a sacred space in the city of Lynn, MA.  It is an architectural gem.   It is an old urban church.  And, it is a community spaced, enjoyed by its membership, but also used by hundreds of children, teens, and adults in the city of Lynn.  We host AA, a Food Pantry, and an afterschool tutoring program that benefits so many.  If you have an interest in helping preserve this sacred space to bless people in the city of Lynn for generations still to come, please give Pastor Pete a call today!
